Remember the Unsung Heroes on Memorial Day
The National Military Working Dog Monument will open in October 2013 on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where most of the nation's military's dogs are trained.
The first War Dog Memorial was actually built on the grounds of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in 1923. The unveiling was attended by representatives of every nation that fought in the Great War.
Today it’s possible to adopt a former war dog and adoption requests for retired military dogs has increased since the public heard the story of Cairo, the Navy SEALs dog who helped capture Osama bin Laden.
