Best Friends in War and Peace
“Since 1999, dogs at Walter Reed Army Medical Center -- and now at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir and Fort Meade -- have helped hundreds of wounded warriors in countless ways, and they continue to do so.
“The U.S. Army program is unique. Wounded warriors receive help while they work to train dogs who will one day be full-service mobility dogs for other wounded veterans.
The dogs in training learn over 60 tasks, and when they are 2 years old, they pair up with a wounded veteran to assist in daily life activities.
“Wounded soldiers are selected to work in the U.S. Army's Warrior Transition Brigade (WTB) Service Dog Training Program under the Northern Regional Medical Command during their recovery from catastrophic injuries, such as the loss of a limb.
"The dogs do have a fantastic way of being able to be a physical and emotional support for the soldiers," says Maeve Carey, an occupational therapist and rehabilitation manager at the WTB at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
Carey says the program helps soldiers overcome certain anxieties. It also helps them integrate into the community again.”

Remember the Unsung Heroes on Memorial Day
The National Military Working Dog Monument will open in October 2013 on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where most of the nation's military's dogs are trained.
The first War Dog Memorial was actually built on the grounds of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in 1923. The unveiling was attended by representatives of every nation that fought in the Great War.
Today it’s possible to adopt a former war dog and adoption requests for retired military dogs has increased since the public heard the story of Cairo, the Navy SEALs dog who helped capture Osama bin Laden. To learn more about other unsung heroes, visit US War Dogs and Military Working Dog Adoptions.

Sons of Anarchy
“Led by President Clay Morrow, and later Jax Teller, the club protects and controls [the CA town of] Charming through close community relationships, bribery, and violent intimidation.”
Not sure why anyone would wanna’ follow a series about crime and more crime, but there’s no accountin’ for stupid taste or, for that matter, the popularity of the Godfather movies. AHM says people are tryin’ to escape reality. Really? Why? The whole country is livin’ a real-life “Sons of Anarchy” storyline.
“An unnamed California healthcare provider is suing the embattled Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and 15 agents for allegedly seizing 60,000,000 medical records belonging to “more than 10,000,000 Americans, including at least 1,000,000 Californians.”
Original story from Courthouse News: Class [Action Suit] Calls IRS Rude, Crude and Abusive
"Despite knowing that these medical records were not within the scope of the warrant, defendants threatened to 'rip' the servers containing the medical data out of the building if IT personnel would not voluntarily hand them over. Moreover, even though defendants knew that the records they were seizing were not included within the scope of the search warrant, the defendants nonetheless searched and seized the records without making any attempt to segregate the files from those that could possibly be related to the search warrant. In fact, no effort was made at all to even try maintaining the illusion of legitimacy and legality.”
"This complaint seeks justice for each and all of those individuals subjected to the invasive and unlawful search and seizure conducted on March 11, 2011."
PDF of full complaint.

The Face of Evil
This is Sarah Hill Ingram. (Serial evil-doers always have three names, don’t they?) Havin’ done such a stellar job beatin’ down conservatives, Christians, Jews, pro-lifers, et al., she has been promoted to director of the IRS’ Affordable Care Act enforcement office.
She looks like the spawn of a bizarre mating between Nurse Ratched and Orin Scrivello D.D.S. Or maybe even Audrey II, ready to feed on human blood. Do you want this…this…whatever she is…sinkin’ her claws into your medical records usin’ the power of that Little Shop of Horrors, the IRS?
Oh, and if you’re one of those foolish fe-lyings who think this IRS thing is not a big deal ‘cause it won’t affect you?...
“…do not suppose that this is the end. This is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in the olden time.” — Winston Churchill

State of the Obama Administration
There’s an analogy in this story if ya’ can find it.
“Fowl play? Giant rubber duck drowns in Hong Kong
“(CNN) -- Hong Kong's favorite new resident, a giant inflatable duck, took a turn for the worse on Wednesday, looking less like an oversized lovable plaything and more like an unappetizing fried egg on the water.
“The 16.5-meter (54 feet) inflatable sculpture mysteriously lost its mojo overnight, deflated and bobbed lifelessly in Victoria Harbour.
“Organizers called an urgent duck crisis meeting early Wednesday and didn't immediately respond to questions about the misfortunes of the duck or whether the deflation was part of regular maintenance, as reported in some local media.”
Bet ya’ emails were bein’ edited on the fly.
“Much later in the day, organizers responded and said it was a planned deflation. Why it took so long to clarify and why officials had to get senior management approval to make such a statement seems a little odd and naturally, this got Hong Konger's busy with the popular pastime of gossiping.”
None of the “senior management” was available for comment, however their hand-picked spokesperson made numerous television appearances to discuss the matter.

The Bitchification of America Part Deux
"Our survival as a species is dependent on women taking charge,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) told a gathering at a campaign fundraiser earlier this month.
“She made the comment before introducing Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, who was among those attending the Schakowsky fundraiser dubbed ”The Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch” on May 3.
[…] “Today I am asserting that humanity is at a crossroads on this small planet and that our survival as a species is dependent on women taking charge, taking the world in our own hands.”
Admittedly this luncheon was before the conviction of murderin’ abortion Doc. Kermit Gosnell, but Schakowsky apparently misses the simple basics of biology (somethin’ I learned by the time I was six months old—not that AHM appreciated my precociousness).
And like most liberals, Rep. Schakowsky has no sense of irony. She burbled on about human survival dependin’ upon women takin’ charge, while introducin’ a honcho from Planned Parenthood! Ya’ know—those people who insist women have the right to abortion which terminates the very babies who are needed for humans’ survival as a species.
This fe-lyin’ Demo-cat is so dumb she could only have won an election in Illinois. In fact, I’m guessin’ Schakowsky probably has to use a cheat sheet to spell her own name.

The Bitchification of America
Read it and remember the havoc they’ve caused over the last five years.
Hillary Clinton, Cheryl Mills, Victoria Nuland, Valerie Jarrett, Lois Lerner and the other three women directors of the Exempt Organizations Division of the IRS; Julia Pierson (head of Secret Service); Deborah Kay Jones (Ambassador to Libya); Susan Rice; Rebecca Blank (Sec. of Commerce); Karen G. Mills (Admin. Small Business Administration); Lisa Jackson replaced by Gina McCarthy (Admin. EPA); Janet Napolitano (Homeland Security); Hilda Solis (Sec. of Labor); and Kathleen Sebelius (Health and Human Services) who’s now tryin’ to shake down the very health care organizations she regulates to pay for Obamacare shortfalls.
“Young said that Sebelius did not solicit for funds directly from industries that HHS regulates, such as insurance companies and hospitals, but rather asked them to contribute in whatever way they can.
“But the industry official who had knowledge of the calls but did not participate directly in them said there was a clear insinuation by the administration that the insurers should give financially to the nonprofits.
“Meredith McGehee, policy director for the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, which researches government ethics issues, said she was troubled by Sebelius’s activities because the secretary seemed to be “using the power of government to compel giving or insinuate that giving is going to be looked at favorably by the government.”
And now there’s this from NJ Senate (emphasis mine):
“The hot-mic recording opens with what seems to be a female senator or staff member saying, “We need a bill that is going to confiscate, confiscate, confiscate.” Because of the low-quality of the audio, there is a possibility that she is saying something slightly different, however, the words “confiscate” are very clear.
“They want to keep guns out of the hands of bad guys but they don’t have any regulations…to do it,” another woman says, identified possibly as Democrat state Sen. Loretta Weinberg by the Star-Ledger.
“They don’t care about the bad guys,” yet another female voice chimes in. “All they want to do is to have their little guns and do whatever they want with them. ”The Star-Ledger reports that those comments sound like they came from another Democrat, Sandra Cunningham.
“That’s the line they’ve developed,” a woman who sounds like Democrat state Sen. Linda Greenstein says, according to the Star-Ledger.
[…]
“…Weinberg (D-Bergen) told The Star-Ledger that she doesn’t know who used the word “confiscate” during the exchange, seemingly admitting that one of the voices in the audio is hers.
“Cunningham (D-Hudson) and Greenstein (D-Middlesex) could not be reached for comment today,” the report adds.”

Praise the Lord!
“Vice President Joe Biden wants pastors, rabbis and nuns to tell their flocks that enacting gun control is the moral thing to do.” […]
Ever the idiot Demo-cat, Biden has no clue about the role ministers, preachers, and chaplains played in U.S. history.
Like Pastor James Caldwell of the Elizabeth, New Jersey Presbyterian Church. When the NJ militia ran out of wadding for their muskets in the midst of battle, Caldwell, galloped to his church, and returned with an armload of hymn-books to use instead. The British murdered both he and his wife, and burned his church. (Piers Morgan would probably approve.)
Or Pastor John Muhlenberg of Woodstock, Virginia, who told his flock the time to preach was past. "It is now," he cried, "the time to fight." To his disapproving brother he wrote:
"You may say that as a clergyman nothing can excuse my conduct. I am a clergyman, it is true, but I am a member of society as well as the poorest layman, and my liberty is as dear to me as any man. I am called by my country to its defence. The cause is just and noble. Were I a Bishop.....I should obey without hesitation; and as far am I from thinking that I am wrong, I am convinced it is my duty so to do - a duty I owe to my God and my Country."
“Monday's session reflects an attempt to broaden the coalition calling for new gun laws to include a wide array of religious groups—including evangelicals and conservative faith communities.
"There were some very powerful evangelical leaders in the room who needed to be reassured," said Pastor Michael McBride of the PICO National Network, a faith-based organizing network.”
He’s from San Francisco. ‘Nuf said.
“Citing what he described as misinformation from the National Rifle Association and others, Biden said the renewed push for gun control must correct misconceptions about what the proposals do and don't do, participants said. He asked clergy to keep up the pressure and to reframe the debate for their followers in moral terms.”
Strange how Demo-cats want nothin’ to do with “religious beliefs” unless they can use ‘em to further their quest for power. An Infamous Dictator of the Past used the same tactic.
“A spokeswoman for Biden declined to comment on the meeting. But Rabbi Julie Schonfeld, executive vice president of the Rabbinical Assembly,…”
And a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, aka “community organizer.”
“…said a diverse spectrum of denominations and religious orders were represented. She said they included evangelical leaders Richard Cizik…”
Who’s an environmental wacko and Global Warming advocate.
“…and Franklin Graham, the son of evangelist Billy Graham,…”
Still rebellin’ against Dad. Wonder if Franklin knows Sam Houston of Texas was a Baptist lay leader and five ministers were part of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders.
“…as well as Sister Marge Clark of Network, a Catholic group.”
She’s a lobbyist with Network, “…a progressive voice within the Catholic community that has been influencing Congress in favor of peace and justice for more than 40 years.”
Whenever an activist cries “peace and justice,” you know you’re not gonna’ get either one.
Throughout American history—the history Obama/Biden intend to “transform”—pastors have always stood and fought for our freedoms. In 1943 the No. 1 song as recorded by Kay Kyser and His Orchestra was “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition,” believed to be inspired by a true story.*
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
And we'll all stay free
Praise the Lord and swing into position
Can't afford to be a politician
Praise the Lord, we're all between perdition
And the deep blue sea
*”An officer in charge of an ammunition line on the USS New Orleans during the [December 1941 Japanese] attack [on Pearl Harbor] said that, "I heard a voice behind me saying, 'Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.' I turned and saw Chaplain [Howell] Forgy [Lieutenant (j.g.)] walking toward me, along the line of men. He was patting them on the back and making that remark to cheer and keep them going. I know it helped me a lot, too."

Does Al Gore Know About This?
Early earth had a distinctive aroma. And it wasn't very nice.
Their work has revealed spherical and rod-shaped bacteria dining on the cylindrical outer shells of another, larger bacterium known as Gunflintia. To digest those Gunflintia sheaths, the feeding bacteria would have had to use oxygen atoms taken from salts, or "sulfates," in seawater. In the process, the microbes formed gaseous carbon dioxide, which would have been released into the atmosphere.
Or…global waming.
Another byproduct of this biochemical process is hydrogen sulfide, which produces a stench commonly known as "the rotten egg smell," explained Martin Brasier, a paleobiologist at Oxford University in London. "The whole world didn't smell of rotten eggs," said Brasier, "but if you had a sensitive nose, it would have been very widespread indeed."
Smelly global warming.
Al Gore must be so proud.

Hats Off!
The weather forecast for Louisville is all-day rain so, of course, Churchill Downs has banned—umbrellas. Binoculars are banned as well, which seems just plain mean considerin’ how huge a racetrack oval is. If ya’ gotta’ watch the Kentucky Derby on a Jumbotron, ya’ might as well stay home and save a couple thousand dollars.
But nowhere in the list of banned items is a prohibition on the most ostentatious item that has become a Derby staple—ginormous, outrageous hats. Maybe they just plan on havin’ security search each and every chapeau comin’ through the gate. Fine and dandy—at least until these examples show up. And how in the hell do you search this?
Someone’s got issues.

"A horse never runs so fast...
Saturday is the 139th runnin' of the Kentucky Derby. AHM has been followin' horseracin’ for decades, and a few years ago we put together a series of posts about the eleven Triple Crown winners. Don’t have time to do that this year, but figured we’d go down memory lane and link to the previous posts.
Actually, with the Kentucky Oaks runnin’ tomorrow at Churchill Downs, I was gonna’ do a post about the Filly Triple Crown (that’s really called The Triple Tiara ‘cause, ya’ know, it’s for girls) but there isn’t a “national” Filly Triple whatever. They’re workin’ on it, so maybe one day.
Anyway, from first to last, here are the eleven horses who beat the odds to become immortal.
